The Quinta do Salvador do Mundo house dates back to a past lost in the annals of history - a vast mansion and farmhouse, the former property of the bishopric of Évora, has now, after careful and detailed renovation, come to corroborate its historical significance and beauty in the magnificient landscape of the area known as do "Salvador".

It neighbours the desecrated church of SALVADOR DO MUNDO, a valuable example of Roman-Gothic architecture and the 16th century church of Santo Quintino - where the abundance of 17th and 18th centuries "azulejos" (tiles) deserves your attention - the Quinta do Salvador do Mundo is only minutes away from the Alqueidão Fortress, centre of the famous Linhas de Torres (Vedras) and bastion of the defensive system during the French invasions at the beginning of the 19th century.

Salvador do Mundo is ideally situated for all those interested in the Peninsular War. The Great Redoubt at Sobral, Wellington and Beresford's headquarters are minutes away.

In the centre of the Western region - region of extensive vineyards and hills crowned with windmills, very close to the coast with its long beautiful beaches - the house looks onto a breathtaking valley, with a view to the Serra do Socorro (Socorro Mountain), Wellington's principal signalling station.

In addition to walks, cycling, or horse riding in the surrounding countryside, you can go to the beaches along the west coast or to the Ilhas Berlengas (Berlengas Islands) - a Natural Maritime Reserve of rare beauty. You can practice nautical sports on the Lagoa de Óbidos (Óbidos Lagoon), visit the fortresses, go to the Convento de Mafra, Peniche, Óbidos, Caldas da Rainha, you can even watch the work going on in the fields, especially the wine growing and join in the harvest parties. Golf players have an excellent golf course in the West at Praia d'El Rey Golf and Country Club - classified as one of the best golf courses in Portugal. But you can also play golf at Atlântico (Praia da Consolação/Peniche), Vimeiro as well as, although a little bit further away, the Golden Eagle in Rio Maior.

The centrally heated house has nine bedrooms - all equipped with private bathrooms and TV- spacious leisure areas where you can just sit and relax, read or play cards. The daily fee includes breakfast.

The house is open from March to December and the owners live there all year round.
